A technical design and construction project (RIBA Stages 4 & 5) involving the conversion, refurbishment, and extension of a former Sutton Council office building into 76 residential apartments of varying sizes across five storeys.
The design retains and repurposes the existing building envelope, with the new architectural interventions drawing inspiration from the proportions, forms, and horizontal lines of the original structure. This approach preserves the building's character while creating a contemporary residential development.
A carefully considered material palette, including zinc cladding, off-white render, and glazed glass balustrades to the fourth-floor terraces, provides a clean and contemporary aesthetic while achieving high energy performance standards. The selection of materials responds to the surrounding context, ensuring the development integrates sensitively with the local townscape.
