Green Spine is an urban rejuvenation master plan located at Suba, Bogotá, aimed at tackling systemic racism, entrenched social stratification, and the long-term effects of spatial segregation. The proposal adopts Educational Urbanism, an interdisciplinary framework uniting pedagogy, educational planning, and urban design, to reimagine disadvantaged neighbourhoods through the integration of green infrastructure, affordable housing, and inclusive educational facilities for all ages.
The design promotes social inclusivity by creating flexible “in-between” spaces that act as catalysts for interaction, collaboration, and cultural exchange. These spaces are strategically programmed to support indigenous and internally displaced populations, fostering peaceful coexistence and shared community identity.
Targeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Quality Education (SDG 4) and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), the strategy targets a 1 km² site positioned as a crucial connector between two separated districts. Centred on an abandoned brownfield strip, originally planned as a highway and crossing the Arzobispo River, the project transforms the underutilised land into a vibrant civic corridor, stitching together fragmented urban fabric and creating new opportunities for equitable development.
